Hope everyone has been having a fantastic week and enjoying the glimpse of sunshine and blue skies making an appearance! COMPETITION TIME
During the month of September, every $10 spent at The Mercury Plaza is an entry in to win $1000 worth of Tattoo Vouchers from Sunset Tattoo! This is HUGE! The winner can redeem the vouchers with their artist/s of choice!
The winner will be drawn on the 1st of October!
THE DRAWING SHOW
A collective show celebrating the art of drawing and illustration! With a wide range of incredibly talented artists and creatives, this is one you don’t want to miss! Running through til the end of September at The Mercury Plaza. For a full list of artists, see below.
Opening night is Friday 18 September, 6pm-9pm.

Calling one, calling all! We are currently on the hunt for amazing artists, crafters, designers, makers and cool people with interesting stuff to sell! We have little pop up shop options, or sale on consignment, for our upcoming market. If this sounds like you, or someone you know we’d love to hear from you!

WE ARE BACK BABY!!!

After 3 weeks of Level 3 lockdown, Auckland moved into Level 2.5 at midnight on Sunday 30th of August which mean’t we were allowed to open (YAHOO) with a few new changes and rules in place!
Here’s what different about Sunset Tattoo…
Due to the current global health crisis, we have taken extra measures to keep both our clients and staff safe. We ask all of our clients to honour our requests so we can continue operating happily and healthily.
Please use the hand sanitiser provided at the top of the stairs upon entering our studio to help keep our studio clean and sterile.
To ensure the health of our staff, clients and wider community, please come to your appointment alone. This way we will be able to limit our numbers in the shop to a one on one interaction.
Masks will be provided, or feel free to wear your own! All artists will be wearing masks to protect themselves and their clients!

As always, if you feel at all unwell, or have been in a high risk area overseas or in close contact to the current cluster in Auckland, please contact the studio to reschedule your appointment. Deposits will be honoured and we encourage people to isolate if feeling unwell.
We adhere to the strictest hygiene measures at Sunset Tattoo, and are following the guidelines set out by authorities to keep us all safe.

Fern Ngatai; Tā moko apprentice
It seems like only yesterday we got the announcement that Auckland would be moving back into Level 3 Lockdown, and now here we are, less than a week (fingers crossed) until we safely move into Level 2! Its been a busy couple of days for our Shop Manager Jack to reschedule everyones missed appointments but now that thats all done, it’s time to relax before we reopen on Tuesday the 2nd of September and start slinging some fresh tatts! I know that I can’t wait to get a new piece, or 3 haha!
Our artists have been keeping busy during lockdown so lets take a look at what they have been up to…
MAMAKU by Fern Ngatai
Tā moko apprentice Fern Ngatai created this beautiful A2 painting; MAMAKU. Inspired by her recent Moko Wananga Trio in Rotorua where she learnt about the Mamaku which is is the tallest and fastest growing New Zealand native tree fern. This piece is her interpretation of the fern leaves.
MARANGA MAI by Fern Ngatai
The second piece Fern created is this A2 drawing called MARANGA MAI, which translates to Wake up in English!
Fern created this piece as a drive to get out of bed in the morning to create something and do something positive with her day. Lockdown has been a hard and confusing time for everyone, so channelling her energy into something creative gave her purpose and a sense of productivity!
Fern is an incredible multimedia artist and currently apprenticing under Manawa Tapu at Sunset Tattoo. She is still charging apprentice rates and has time at the the end of September to tattoo you.
